Theoretically, taking large amounts of black cohosh with hepatotoxic medications and/or during compromised liver function, may increase the risk of liver damage (eg. due to the inhibition of cytochrome P450 enzymes such as CYP3A4).
Known Side Effects
The evidence that black cohosh causes liver damage is not conclusive. Until more is known, monitor patients who take Black Cohosh for signs of compromised liver function.
