Simple Start-up Guide: How to Compound?

Custom compounded nutritional supplements can be a highly valuable addition to your practice for offering truly personalised healthcare for patients.

If you are new to compounding, here are some basic steps to get you started.

1. Private Consult with Patient

Determine ingredients and dose based on the patient’s unique requirements. This consult must occur privately with individual patient (excluded from the public).

2. Mix Ingredients

Use clean and food-safe equipment and containers for mixing ingredients. Simply measure out the required amounts into a larger container (such as a large tupperware container) and give it a good shake. Note: The                                 product must be manufactured on the premises.

3. Dispense

Dispense into a suitable empty container and tighten the lid until you hear the ‘click’, sealing the finished product. You can order empty dispensing containers from Research Nutrition here.

4. Price Product

Calculate the cost of raw ingredients used and add your preferred mark-up to arrive at a sell price to your patient (added to your consultation billing). Visit the  Clinic Resources section of our website for our                                          downloadable PDF calculation tool.

5. Label the Finished Product

As well as following your own good clinic log procedures, make sure you label the product as per the example label below. You can purchase blank labels from Research Nutrition, or print your own labels.
