Why Choose DNA Collection via Blood-Spot

dnalife® Offer New Collection Method for All DNA Testing Kits

DNA Collection Now Via Blood-Spot

The recent decision made by dnalife® to change the collection method of their DNA testing kits from saliva to blood-spot expresses their mission to be at the forefront of the Functional Medicine Industry, adding as much value as possible to practitioners and their patients.

Why the change?

Whist collection via buccal swabs is non-invasive, painless, and relatively stable, there can be challenges with obtaining sufficient DNA yield to perform the required analysis. This has necessitated requests for re-swabs, which causes delays in results and is frustrating for all parties.

dnalife® have therefore done extensive work comparing efficiencies of buccal swab with dry blood spot (DBS) as a sample collection method. In all, they have found significant benefits from using blood spot:

  • Fewer re-swab requests-out of a pool of 54 re-swab requests, 51 of these were from buccal swab as compared to 3 from DBS
  • Fewer missing genes– significantly better call rates (99.2% vs 98.5%)
  • Better yield and quality of DNA–  due to less bacterial DNA content in DBS

The benefits of DBS are clear; for this reason, all dnalife® test kits now include just a DBS collection kit for all DNA tests.

Should you have any questions on this change please contact us at RN Labs and we will be happy to assist.

About dnalife®

Genetic testing and nutrigenomics are the future of individualised healthcare.
Until recently, healthcare practitioners have been left to educate themselves in this exciting area of clinical science; dnalife® recognise the complexities that surround DNA testing, and their goal is to make this science readily accessible to every clinical practice.

dnalife® holds an extensive knowledge base, uses selective test panels, and practical and user-friendly reports. Equipped with the most up-to-date DNA tests, dnalife® is dedicated to providing healthcare practitioners with training and education to accurately interpret genetic results.

The impact of diet, lifestyle, exercise, and environment on an individual’s genetic makeup should not be underestimated. Knowledge of how genes are influenced by external factors enables the development of personalised health programs not only in supporting the chronically ill patient to improve health but also for someone at peak fitness levels to gain the most from their training programs.

dnalife® DNA tests focus on health management, dietary disposition, athletic performance, and drug metabolism. Each test provides a unique insight into a patient’s genetic code: revealing sensitivities, susceptibilities, and keys to their true health potential.

Genetic testing gets to the basis of a patient’s biochemistry. Such a sensitive subject demands careful measures for revealing and interpreting the results of genetic testing. dnalife® has set new standards, not only in the development of test panels but also in the education of those using the tests.

dnalife® believe that genetic testing should always be considered in the context of a broader medical examination; their tests are therefore available exclusively through appropriately trained healthcare practitioners.
